What to Know About Highland Elementary

    • Highland was built in 1941 to serve a modest residential area being developed at that time. In some cases, the original owners still reside in these homes. Increasing numbers of homes are being sold or rented to families with young children. 
    • Some unique programs which take place at Highland include the Transitional Kindergarten Program for students who turn 5 between September 1 and December 31. A STEM focus on Technology and Engineering through Project Lead The Way Extended School Program (Encore) Imagine Learning Intervention Program. Student Clubs: Robotics & Coding, Drama Highland Dolphin Praise reward system - student incentive program to encourage outstanding work and positive behavior. Enrichment activities, including Family Activity Nights, Holidays Around the World, and STEAM Showcase A Teacher Leader who provides coaching and professional development for teachers as well as direct support to classrooms based on needs in each grade level classroom.
    • Highland Elementary has a full-time Library Media Specialist.
    • Highland also has a Child Development Program on the school campus. The Child Care Program operates five days a week and is open from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Child Care children are enrolled according to hours needed by their parents who are either employed or attend a training program and/or school. The children attend class daily for three hours. Snacks are provided.
    • Highland is a Full Service Community School. The goal of the Vallejo Full Service Community Schools (FSCS) is to improve student academic achievement and well-being through the offering of comprehensive high-quality services. The following are the program's main objectives: Improve student achievement (closing the achievement gap) Improve student attendance Reduce student referrals, suspensions, and expulsions Increase student well-being in a range of health indices Improve school campus safety Increase parent involvement in their children's education.
