School Closures
Our Roadmap to Resizing

Our district, like many in California, is facing declining enrollment impacting our funding and requiring us to consider closing and consolidating schools. As we embark on this journey together, the Roadmap to Resizing represents a carefully planned and thoughtful process designed to align our district’s resources with the changing needs of our students. This is an emotional issue for our community, and we are committed to making necessary adjustments towards building a more sustainable and student-centered future filled with opportunities for growth and improvement.

Schools Being Evaluated

After reviewing districtwide data, the district is examining seven schools: Cooper Elementary, Federal Terrace Elementary, Highland Elementary, John Finney Education Complex (programs would not close, but would be moved to another campus), Lincoln Elementary, Pennycook Elementary, and Steffan Manor Elementary. The Board of Education will make the final decisions by December 2025, with any changes scheduled for the 2026–27 school year.

District Resizing Process

The Roadmap to Resizing outlines a clear, three-step approach for adapting our district to current and future needs. Together, these steps will help us build a stronger, more student-focused district.

Step 2: Plan Development

Step 2 involves developing and evaluating possible solutions with stakeholder feedback and clear decision points.
