Pathways to Biliteracy Awards
Recognition Program
VCUSD adopted a system of "pathway" awards from third through eighth grade, recognizing benchmarks toward biliteracy (the ability to fluently read, write, speak, and understand two languages). These pathway awards are designed to recognize students and encourage the pursuit of language skills in two or more languages. Further, the Pathways to Biliteracy Awards affirm positive attitudes toward multilingualism and validate the use of multiple languages for all students.
Benefits of Pursuing Biliteracy
Together, these awards provide a pathway to the State Seal of Biliteracy that students can earn in high school, making them more competitive for scholarships, college admissions, and careers. The VCUSD Pathways to Biliteracy program includes awards at the 3rd, 5th, and 8th-grade levels with criteria specific to the grade level.
