Career Technical Education (CTE) pathways are course programs that provide students with the academic, technical, and real world knowledge, skills and experience they need to be prepared for a variety of career options. Generally, CTE pathways have a sequence of two or more CTE courses within a student’s area of career interest.
The Four-Year Plan
All students need to work with their counselor to ensure that they have a 4-year plan. This means meeting with the counselor each year to review which classes have been taken (and passed) and which classes should be taken the following year. Below is a sample four-year plan that includes 240 credits, meeting both VCUSD and the UC/CSU and NCAA graduation requirements.
College Entrance Requirements
If students intend to enroll in a UC (University of California) or a CSU (California State University) upon graduation from High School then it is essential to understand the requirements that need to be met. For most 2 year colleges and other post-high school pathways, meeting the 220 credits required by VCUSD for a VCUSD High School Diploma should be enough for students to meet the entrance requirements. However, for a University of California (UC) or a California State University (CSU) there are additional requirements that must be met. Please note that ALL courses must be passed with a “C” grade or better if they are going to count for UC or CSU admission.
