Home and Hospital Program

The parent/guardian will need to set up a meeting with the student’s counselor to discuss the options that would best serve the student’s needs.

If your child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP), a change of placement IEP must be held, and Home and Hospital instruction approved by the IEP team for the new instructional setting. A copy of the meeting notes MUST accompany your application.

Students are entitled to a maximum of 5 hours per week of home instruction. Meeting times are arranged between the parent/guardian, student, and HH teacher.

Students are responsible for keeping devices safe and being on Zoom/google meets on time at the established hours if being instructed virtually.

The minimum time a student can be enrolled in Home and Hospital is three weeks up to a maximum of nine weeks.

• Teachers will meet with a student for 5 hrs a week (with the ability to meet for more than one hour per day)
• The student's schedule will be created collaboratively between the teacher and the family
• Up to two hours of preparation time per caseload is provided for teachers
• Home Hospital teachers can work with up to four students at a time

• The dates will vary according to the student's needs (can vary from one to four months)
• Teachers will be informed of the student's time frame

• CDE recommends in-person services unless the family approves online in writing
• Most families prefer virtual services (in-person services are more rare)
• Home Hospital courses are administered with Edgenuity

The time spent in the Home and Hospital Program is determined by a CA Licensed Medical Professional. Eligibility will be reviewed every nine weeks and requires an extension from a medical professional. Enrollment is based on the current academic year only and a new referral must be submitted every school year.

Extensions during the school year are possible with a referral from a CA Licensed Medical Professional. Referrals may not exceed nine weeks.

Currently, Home and Hospital Program teachers meet with students for one hour per subject per week. Some of our teachers are available during regular school hours, whereas others are only available after school hours. Most instruction is done virtually.

High School classes are offered based on the student's existing school schedule (no honors or AP classes). Limited electives are also available. Middle School and Elementary classes include core subjects.

No, AP and Honors courses are not offered.
