Understanding NWEA MAP Tests
A Guide for VCUSD Families

NWEA MAP Growth is an assessment system that shows how your child is growing academically over time, providing our schools with reliable, actionable data to better support students throughout the school year. By measuring student performance and growth in math, reading, language, and science, these results guide our teachers in making smart, immediate instructional decisions and personalizing learning experiences to ensure every student—from early elementary through high school—is prepared for continued learning and success.

The MAP Growth test is administered periodically throughout the school year—typically in the fall, winter, and spring. Students from kindergarten through high school take assessments in math, reading, language, and science. Note: This replaces the end-of-year and specific grade-level breakdown of the CAASPP, because MAP Growth is used continuously across all grade levels to track ongoing progress.
