VALLEJO, Calif. - On Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, the City of Vallejo, in partnership with the Vallejo City Unified School District and the PitCCh-In Foundation, will be honoring baseball legend, philanthropist, and hometown hero Carsten Charles “CC” Sabathia.

The event will take place on Sunday, Nov. 16, 2025, at Vallejo High School’s Corbus Field (840 Nebraska Street, Vallejo, CA). To recognize his achievements and contributions, Sabathia will be presented with a proclamation, an honorary street renaming, and a key to the city. The gates will open at 11 a.m. for children’s activities, and the official ceremony will begin at 1 p.m. with the program. The event is open to the public.

A proud graduate of Vallejo High School, Sabathia was a standout three-sport athlete—excelling in baseball, basketball, and football. His athleticism and leadership were evident even then, as he helped bring recognition to Vallejo High with his dominant performances on the mound. His success in high school set the stage for an extraordinary professional career that would ultimately make him one of baseball’s all-time greats.

In July 2025, Sabathia was inducted into the Major League Baseball (MLB) Hall of Fame, a crowning achievement in a career that included pitching for three MLB teams, earning more than 3,000 strikeouts, 251 wins, the 2007 American League Cy Young Award, and the 2009 American League Championship Series MVP. Over 26 postseason games, he recorded 121 strikeouts in 130 innings, finishing with a 10–7 playoff record. Sabathia was elected to the Hall of Fame on his first ballot, receiving 86.8 percent of the vote.

Beyond the field, Sabathia has continued to uplift his hometown through philanthropy and advocacy. Together with his wife, Amber, and his mother, Margie, he founded the PitCCh-In Foundation, which supports youth and families in Vallejo and New York City through education, mentorship, and community engagement. The foundation sponsors free baseball camps for local children and is the largest annual donor to the Vallejo Teacher Store, where VCUSD educators can obtain free classroom supplies.

The City of Vallejo, VCUSD, and the PitCCh-In Foundation invite the entire community to join in celebrating CC Sabathia’s enduring legacy—both as a Hall of Fame athlete and as a hometown hero who continues to give back.
