Vallejo City Unified School District Clarifies It Has Not Endorsed Any Candidate for School Board

VALLEJO, CA — Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD) is issuing this statement to clarify that the district has not endorsed, and does not endorse, any candidate in the upcoming election for a seat on the VCUSD Board of Education.

The district has become aware that campaign materials for a candidate in this race — including signage, website content, and social media posts — use fonts, colors, and a logo closely resembling the official VCUSD brand and logo. This use was not authorized by the district.

School districts in California are required to remain neutral in candidate elections and may not use district resources to support or oppose any candidate. VCUSD takes this obligation seriously and is concerned that the visual similarity between these campaign materials and the district's official branding may create the impression, among voters, that the district has endorsed a particular candidacy. It has not.

The district has contacted the candidate directly to request that the use of materials resembling the district's brand and logo stop, and to make clear that no endorsement has been made or implied.

VCUSD encourages voters to evaluate all candidates for the Board of Education based on their qualifications and positions, and reminds the public that the district does not endorse candidates in board elections.
