VALLEJO, Calif. — Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD) has released its 2024–25 State of the District, a publication highlighting major milestones, student achievements and district priorities. The report is now available on the VCUSD website.

This year’s report marks a historic turning point for the district. In August 2024, VCUSD completed repayment of the $60 million emergency state loan received in 2004, and as of June 30, 2025, the district officially regained full local control following more than two decades of state and county oversight.

“Regaining local governance is a turning point,” Superintendent Rubén Aurelio said in the report. “With local governance restored, we are empowered to chart our own course, align resources with our vision, and focus on what matters most: excellence, equity and opportunity for every student.”

The State of the District highlights progress in student outcomes, including a 22-point drop in chronic absenteeism, from 54 percent in 2023–24 to 32 percent in 2024–25, along with academic gains across grade levels and a 5% increase in graduation rate.

VCUSD also shares updates on programs and pathways supporting students from preschool through adulthood, including expansion of Universal Transitional Kindergarten with 18 additional classrooms, growth in the Expanded Learning Program serving more than 1,300 students daily at 16 sites, and career academies in law, engineering, health and multimedia.

Community engagement and partnership highlights include the district’s 49th Annual Special Olympics at Corbus Field, and “Safe Start to School Days,” which Vallejo Police Department officers were stationed at key elementary schools during morning drop-off to support pedestrian safety and traffic flow.

Facilities and financial updates include Measure S improvements and investments to modernize campuses, along with a focus on stabilizing district finances and prioritizing services for high-needs students.

Looking ahead, VCUSD outlines priorities to strengthen instruction, accelerate learning, support English learners, expand access to arts and STEM, support the whole child, and deepen connections with families and community partners.

The report is available on the VCUSD website. A Spanish version is available as well.
