VALLEJO, Calif. — Vallejo honored one of its most celebrated hometown heroes on Nov. 16, 2025, recognizing Major League Baseball Hall of Famer CC Sabathia and his wife, sports agent Amber Sabathia, for their longstanding contributions to the community.

The event at Vallejo High's Corbus Field began with a free baseball clinic hosted by the PitCCh-In Foundation, an organization founded by CC and Amber Sabathia to equip young people with tools and success, giving local students the chance to learn directly from Sabathia and his coaching team. Families, former teammates, coaches, city officials, and Vallejo students filled the stands despite the rainy weather.

During the ceremony, the City of Vallejo, in partnership with Vallejo City Unified School District and the PitCCh-In Foundation, presented the Sabathias with the key to the city and issued a proclamation establishing “CC Sabathia Day.” The city also renamed Gateway Drive in North Vallejo as CC Sabathia Way, creating a permanent tribute to the Vallejo native’s athletic achievements and community support.

Sabathia, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame earlier this year, humbly accepted the honors, crediting former Vallejo athletes and his development as a student athlete at Vallejo High.

Amber Sabathia was also recognized for her leadership and the foundation’s ongoing partnership with VCUSD, which includes annual backpack giveaways, school supply donations, and support for the district’s teacher store.

As the ceremony concluded, residents lined up for photos, handshakes, and the chance to share their own memories of Sabathia’s early years in Vallejo. Although he now lives in New York, Sabathia said he returns home as often as possible and remains proud of his roots.

The day served as both a celebration of Sabathia’s Hall of Fame career and a reminder of the lasting impact he and his family continue to make in Vallejo.
