VALLEJO, Calif. — Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD) invites students, families, and the community to kick off the 2026-27 school year at its first annual Back-to-School Event on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Loma Vista Farm (150 Rainier Ave., Vallejo, CA 94589).

The free, family-friendly celebration reflects VCUSD's commitment to strengthening relationships with students, families, and the broader community through meaningful opportunities to connect, learn, and grow together. Held at Loma Vista Farm—one of the district's most treasured educational resources and outdoor classrooms—the event is part of VCUSD's ongoing efforts to cultivate connections that support student success throughout the school year.

Owned by VCUSD and in partnership with Friends of Loma Vista Farm, a nonprofit that helps sustain the farm, our five-acre educational farm offers students opportunities that can't be replicated inside four walls. Students from every campus get to experience it firsthand as they care for animals, explore gardens, observe ecosystems, apply hands-on curriculum, and discover how agriculture, nutrition, and environmental stewardship connect to the world around them. The farm serves as a living classroom where curiosity grows alongside academic learning.

Designed to make the transition back to school as smooth and welcoming as possible, the event brings enrollment services, student support programs, district staff, and community partners together in one location. Families can ask questions, discover available resources, connect with district staff and community partners, and feel prepared for the first day of school on Monday, Aug. 17.

Throughout the day, families can:

  • Enroll students or receive enrollment support.

  • Meet school and district staff, including school-site principals, mental health providers, expanded learning and childhood development teams, transportation, and more.

  • Learn about academic programs and student support services, like our community schools, student nutrition, McKinney-Vento, special education, and more.

  • Connect with local community organizations, like Vallejo Police Department, IHart, SolTrans, the Solano County Library, and more.

  • Meet the Friends of Loma Vista Farm organization, whose volunteers help care for and preserve the farm.

  • Explore Loma Vista Farm.

"This event is an opportunity to celebrate the start of a new school year while ensuring every family feels welcomed, connected, and aware of the many resources available to help their children succeed," VCUSD Superintendent Rubén Aurelio said. "When families feel connected to their schools, to one another, and to the support available to them, students are better positioned to learn, grow, and thrive."

The first 100 families to attend will receive a FIFA World Cup soccer ball, courtesy of the City of Vallejo.

Guests are encouraged to spend time exploring the farm and enjoying the grounds. Please note that food will not be available during the event, and visitors should not feed the farm animals.

The event is free and open to all VCUSD families and community members.
