VCUSD Names Abigail Miller as Classified Employee of the Year
The Vallejo City Unified School District has named Abigail Miller, a clerk II at Cave Language Academy, its Classified Employee of the Year.
Abigail Miller, who joined the district in 2015, was nominated by Cave Language Academy’s Principal, Lorena Hernandez.
Hernandez shared, “Miller is an extraordinary asset to our school, whose dedication and contributions significantly enhance our daily operations and the experiences of everyone in our community. What truly sets Miller apart is her affability and congeniality, which create a productive, welcoming, and happy environment for all who enter the office. I wholeheartedly recommend her for any recognition or opportunity to celebrate her outstanding efforts.”
Miller was inspired to work in education to contribute to children's growth and success. In her role, she finds fulfillment in helping students and families—whether by offering emotional guidance to students, assisting parents with questions and concerns, or ensuring daily operations run smoothly.
“One of my proudest accomplishments is being bilingual, which allows me to support Spanish-speaking families better so they feel heard, understood, and welcomed,” Miller said.
What she enjoys most about her job is the strong sense of teamwork she shares with her administrator and office colleagues. She thrives in a fast-paced environment, handling daily challenges with a calm, focused, and positive attitude. No matter how busy the day gets, she remains dedicated to ensuring students and staff have the support they need to succeed.
When asked what traits lead to success in a role like hers, Miller said, “I believe patience is key in a school office role, as every day brings unique interactions with students, parents, and staff.”
Reflecting on her nomination, she said, “It is an honor to be selected as VCUSD’s representative, and it is a truly rewarding feeling after years of dedicated service.”
Miller originally chose to work at VCUSD after relocating from Las Vegas to align with her son’s school schedule. However, the meaningful connections she has built with coworkers and families over the years have kept her in the district.
Miller will now advance to the county-level selection and recognition program, where she will represent VCUSD. Winners at the county level move on to compete at the state level. The State Superintendent of Public Instruction traditionally announces the recipients of the state awards in May, in conjunction with Classified School Employees Week (May 18-24, 2025). The California Department of Education recognizes exemplary classified employees statewide who best represent California and symbolize contributions and commitment to education.
