VCUSD Seeks Community Members to Help Shape District’s Next Strategic Plan

VALLEJO, Calif. — Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD) is inviting members of the district community to help shape the future direction of Vallejo schools by applying to serve on its Strategic Planning Committee.

The committee will help VCUSD develop the successor to its 2022–2027 Strategic Plan, bringing together voices and perspectives from across the district and Vallejo community to consider what VCUSD’s priorities should be in the years ahead.

The committee will include up to 24 members, with representation from students, parents and guardians, certificated staff, classified staff, administrators, community members, and local partners. VCUSD will seek a balance of experiences, perspectives, and connections to the district when selecting members.

“Our next strategic plan should reflect what our students need and what our community wants for their future,” said VCUSD Superintendent Rubén Aurelio. “Families, students, employees, and community partners each see our schools from a different perspective. We hope they will bring those experiences to the committee and help us set clear priorities for the years ahead.”

Committee members will review district information, listen to community input, and help identify and recommend priorities and measures for consideration by the VCUSD Governing Board.

Members should expect to participate in four meetings throughout the 2026–27 school year, including evening meetings. The Strategic Planning Committee will serve in an advisory capacity, with the Governing Board retaining final decision-making authority.

Because membership is limited to 24 people, submitting an application does not guarantee an appointment. Applications will be reviewed to create a committee that reflects the diverse schools, roles, experiences, and perspectives within VCUSD and the broader Vallejo community. Selected members and alternates will be contacted directly.

For selected student applicants under age 18, VCUSD will request parent or guardian consent before appointment.

The strategic planning process will build upon VCUSD’s current 2022–2027 Strategic Plan while providing an opportunity for the district and community to examine current needs, priorities, and aspirations for Vallejo students and schools.

Additional information, dates, and the application are available on VCUSD’s current Strategic Plan website.
