Whether they’re assisting in classrooms, chaperoning a field trip, or helping at a district-wide event, volunteers play a vital role in Vallejo City Unified School District's mission of delivering a high-quality education to every student.
Here's how to become an approved volunteer at a Vallejo City Unified School District site.
Steps To Become a Volunteer at VCUSD
-
Step 1-Gather Your Documents
Gather the following required documents to complete the volunteer process:
- Tuberculosis test result (result must be within three years or a current TB risk assessment signed off by a medical provider).
- Valid government-issued ID.
-
Step 2-Complete the Application
Complete the volunteer application online.
- The application requires your TB clearance date. The form will be collected once you have completed the paperwork process.
- Print the forms from the link shown after your application is submitted. If you do not have access to a printer, please stop by Human Resources to pick up a copy.
Note: If you answered “yes” to any question regarding your background, you will need to provide a written statement including your circumstances, dates, names, cause, and sentence or fine etc. If you fail to send the written statement, it will delay your process and possibly stop you from becoming a volunteer.
The statement can be sent to HR@vcusd.org with the subject "Volunteer Background Statement."
Notes for parent/guardian volunteers only:
Print and use forms in the link:· Request for Live Scan Form (Required Document)
· Next steps: After Live Scan Instruction
These forms allow you to be fingerprinted at the Live Scan location below. If you do not have access to a printer, please visit Human Resources for the required documents needed to complete your fingerprints.
There is no fee for parents/guardians to fingerprint. The fee is billed to VCUSD.
UPS Locations:

Notes for contractors and community members only:
- The department or site you are working with must send an email to HR with your information.
District cost for fingerprints: $32 for DOJ
Outside cost: $32 for DOJ and a rolling fee that will vary at different locations.
-
Step 3-Complete a Live Scan
As a volunteer, you will need to complete a Live Scan for our District. A live scan is a background check that is processed through the Department of Justice (DOJ), which requires being fingerprinted.
- Take the Request Live Scan Service form to the Live Scan location. Live Scan services are located at the UPS Store. The addresses are 3505 Sonoma Blvd Ste. 20, Vallejo, CA 94590 or 101 W American Canyon Rd, American Canyon, CA 94503.
- Complete the application information section of the "Request for Live Scan Service" form. You have to print the form to complete it.
Note: You must have a valid government-issued ID to be fingerprinted.
-
Step 4-Completing the Process
Please bring or email the following documents to the Human Resources Department within two weeks of being fingerprinted:
- Copy of Live Scan form.
Note: The sooner you bring in the paperwork, the sooner you can be cleared to become a volunteer.
If you are missing any of the required documents above, you will not be approved to volunteer.
-
Step 5-Clearance
Most clearance questions can be addressed at your child’s school site by the designated staff member(s), who will be updated regularly on the progress of a volunteer application.
You will receive a volunteer clearance letter via email for your records.
