Steps to Register New Students (Transitional Kindergarten-12th grade)

1. Find Your Neighborhood School
You will need to register at your neighborhood school. You must have a valid address with the Vallejo City Unified School District. To find your neighborhood school, please use the school locater map.

2. Collect the Required Documents and Information

Birth Certificate
An original birth certificate, certified copy or a clear copy of the birth certificate, passport, hospital registration of birth (signed by hospital personnel), immigration visa, or, in the case of a foster child if any of the above are not available, a letter from Social Services (signed letter) verifying the birth date. -
Confirmation of Parental Information Other Than a Birth Certificate
If you are unmarried parents or have legal guardianship, please provide either the foster placement order, court order authorization guardianship or caregiver's affidavit. If a birth certificate cannot be provided, an affidavit for proof of age of the minor must be uploaded. The form is included in the documents section to fill out and upload. -
Immunization Record
An up-to-date record of immunization from your child's doctor or clinic. -
Proof of Address With Parent or Guardian Name
Proof of address can be verified with two of the following documents--current mortgage papers, management company rental/lease agreement, current utility bill, current automobile registration with auto insurance policy, correspondence from a government agency within the past 45 days, or a pay stub from the past 45 days. Please note, that a driver's license is not acceptable proof of address. -
Parent/Guardian Picture ID
Please provide a copy of one of the below documents:
Current California State Driver’s License or
Current California State ID Card or
Current passport or consulate-issued picture ID. -
Household Size and Annual Household Income Information
To complete the Education Benefits Form in the application, which helps determine the funding for our schools, you will be asked to provide the total number of household members and total annual income for all household members, in the application. - Transcripts (For students who are entering 10th-12th grades)
A transcript will need to be uploaded or turned in to the school's office.

Completed Report of Health Examination for School Entry (For new kindergarten students only)
A report of a health examination is required to be on file at your child's school. Parents/guardians of students entering kindergarten need to complete this requirement as part of the registration process. The form will need to be returned on or before the first day of school. A health exam completed during or after February 2021 will meet this requirement. -
Completed Oral Health (dental) Assessment for School Entry (For new kindergarten students only)
An oral health assessment is required for students entering transitional kindergarten (TK) and kindergarten, to be on file at your child's school as part of the registration process. A dental assessment that has been completed during or after August 2022 will meet this requirement.

- Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD) provides several preschool programs for children under kindergarten age. Each program has unique eligibility requirements. More information on enrolling your child is available on our Child Development Program page.
- VCUSD also has four lottery schools--Elmer Cave Language Academy, Loma Vista Environmental Science Academy, Mare Island Health and Fitness Academy, and Vallejo Charter School. Transfer Process

An Intra-District transfer refers to currently enrolled Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD) students who would like to transfer to another VCUSD school other than the one assigned to their home address.
An Inter-District transfer is used when families wish to enroll their student(s) in a school district other than the one assigned to their home address. This applies to students trying to transfer into and out of Vallejo City Unified School District.

Intra-District Transfer Waitlist
The 2023-24 school year intra-district transfer applications are closed. This form is a waitlist for families who would like to transfer their student to another school within VCUSD.
Please understand that approvals are based on available space at the school site.

Inter-District Transfer (Leaving VCUSD)
If you wish to transfer your student out of the Vallejo City Unified School District, you may apply for an Inter-District Transfer.
Please make sure you read the VCUSD Board Policies 1-11 that will be located on the second page of the Inter-district transfer application. Everyone who applies must meet at least one of these board policies to move forward.
