For 24 years, Vallejo High’s Brandan Harris has made an impact as a teacher, basketball coach, and mentor. He’s passionate about student success and building strong relationships with students and fellow educators. Through the Alder Teacher Residency Program, he’s helping mentor new teachers and inspiring more community members to enter the profession.

Meet Laura Fernandez, teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing program at Pennycook Elementary School. Fernandez teaches American Sign Language and Deaf culture to students not only from Vallejo, but from across the Bay Area. VCUSD’s DHH program is unique to our district, and educators like Ms. Fernandez are what make it so special. Her work reminds us why we Think VCUSD First.
