File A Complaint
The District encourages the early, informal resolution of complaints at the site level whenever possible. Parents or guardians of students in the Vallejo City Unified School District are urged to discuss their concerns directly with the school site employee(s) in question. The outline below sets forth the process for addressing a student’s academic or safety concerns and will govern communications between staff and others in the VCUSD community. If any step in the line of communication is not followed, the issue in question will be immediately referred back to the first skipped level.
Academics
Line of communication for academics:
- Student speaks with teacher (grades 6th–12th)
- Student and parent communicate with teacher
- Student and parent communicate with (academic support provider or counselor), vice-principal and teacher
- Student and parent communicate with (academic support provider or counselor), vice-principal, principal and teacher
- Student and parent communicate with District administration and site personnel as needed
Safety Concerns
Line of communication for safety concerns:
- Student speaks with adult on campus (teacher, site safety supervisor, academic support provider, yard/cafeteria supervisor, office manager, mental health provider, custodian, instructional assistant)
- Student and parent communicate with vice-principal or principal
- Student and parent communicate with District administration and site personnel as needed
Athletics
Line of communication for athletic concerns:
- Student/athlete speaks with coach
- Student/athlete and parent communicate with coach
- Student/athlete and parent communicate with coach and athletic director
- Student/athlete and parent communicate with coach, athletic director and principal
- Student/athlete and parent communicate with District office and site personnel as needed

Complaints about civil rights issues, educational programs, schools, discipline, staff, transportation, grades, transfers, students, instruction or instructional materials, suspension, civil rights, employee complaints, or other similar areas.

Williams Complaint
This complaint procedure is concerning deficiencies related to instructional materials, conditions of facilities that are not maintained in a clean or safe manner or in good repair, and teacher vacancy or misassignment. The complaint and response are public documents as provided by statute. Complaints may be filed anonymously.
