Three VCUSD Schools Receive Notable Accreditation Distinctions

VALLEJO, Calif. - Three schools in the Vallejo City Unified School District (VCUSD), Vallejo Adult School at Al Berenguer Educational Center, Jesse Bethel High School, and Vallejo High School, received six-year accreditation status from the Accrediting Commission for Schools Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC) this year.

The three schools went through an intensive process that included conducting an in-depth self-study, hosting a visit by fellow educators, and engaging all stakeholders in a follow-up process of implementing, monitoring, and refining the resulting schoolwide action plan.

"The six-year accreditation of three of our schools is a testament to our staff and faculty's continuous work," Vallejo City Unified School District Superintendent William Spalding said. "The Vallejo Adult School has remained a stellar resource to Vallejo’s adult community and a pride point of our District. We know there is still work to be done at our high schools to improve, but this is an endorsement of our improvement efforts underway in our schools."

WASC accreditation validates the integrity of a school's program and assures a community that the school's goals are appropriate and accomplished through a viable education program. Furthermore, WASC accreditation is a certification to the public that the school is a trustworthy institution of learning and well-being committed to continuous improvement and high-quality learning and well-being for all students.

The Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges is an accrediting association and one of the six regional accrediting agencies in the United States. The California Department of Education has collaborated with WASC to align the accreditation process with the planning process for California public schools required by state and federal statutes in the School Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) and the Local Control Accountability Plan.
