VALLEJO, Calif. - Here are a few highlights from the Sept. 6 board meeting and the complete agenda packet.
Re-Opening Negotiation Proposals for 2023-24 Between VEA and CSEA
During the meeting, the Board conducted a public hearing regarding the initial joint re-opener proposals for the 2023-2024 academic year between the Vallejo Education Association (VEA) and the California School Employees Association (CSEA). The six-person governing body thoroughly reviewed the negotiation items and received approval to initiate discussions with both unions.
Attendance Update
Dr. Edison Kelly, Director of Student Services, presented a comprehensive update on the district's three-year plan to reduce chronic absenteeism. The plan includes the following goals:

Goal 1: By the 2024-2025 school year, the Vallejo City Unified School District aims to achieve a 15 percent annual decrease in absenteeism, as measured by the California Data Dashboard and 5 Labs.

Goal 2: By the 2024-2025 school year, the district aims to reduce suspensions by 15 percent, as measured by data from the California Data Dashboard and 5 Lab.

Goal 3: By the 2024-2025 school year, the district aims to decrease truancies by 15 percent, as measured by data from the California Data Dashboard and 5 Lab.

Meeting Held In Honor of Staff Member
The board meeting was dedicated to the memory of Ricky Quinn, a Jesse Bethel High School site safety supervisor. In addition to his role, Quinn was also actively involved in coaching the volleyball and baseball teams at Vallejo High School. We honored his contributions and remember him fondly.
